Have you always wanted to be able to wield a sewing machine, or perhaps just keen to redecorate your bedroom or lounge with a collection of self-made scatter cushions? Our Scatter (cushion) & Chatter sewing course starts at the beginning, no sewing experience required. In this five and a half hour course located in our Moorabbin Upholstery Workshop, your seamstress will take you through the ins & outs of a sewing machine and then on to creating your very own 40 x 40 centimetre scatter cushions to take home. You’ll learn how to cut to a pattern with seam allowance, sew different types of zip positioning, sew knife & piped cushion edges & learn about different types of fabrics & cushion inserts. This course is the perfect introduction to sewing in a social and relaxed atmosphere.

About your Seamstress
Your sewing teacher, and founder of Soul Stitches, Jennifer, will guide you through the process of creating your own 40 x 40 centimetre scatter cushion from scratch. Jennifer has been honing her craft over many a year. She is a passionate educator, coming from a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion & having worked in various design rooms over her career, Jennifer has been passing on her skills to students for over a decade. Trust me, you’re in safe hands!
Choosing a Fabric
You will create two or more 40 x 40 centimetre cushions in this course, so it is best to cater for 2 meters of fabric. You will need to source and bring your own fabric for the course. If you require guidance, Jen (the other one) will be more than happy to help guide you through the foray of fabric selection. Check out our fabric webpage which includes links to our favourite fabric warehouses. From this page, you can also submit an order to request fabric samples to be posted to you and also place a fabric order. Samples must be organised four weeks prior to the class start date and orders placed two weeks prior. Please ensure you avoid leather, vinyl, velvet or piled fabrics for the course due to the additional complexities that will face a beginner.

What you get
Included in the course fees are the use of a sewing machine, threads, zips & piping. Cushion inserts are available for additional cost based on your needs. Tea, coffee, water and biscuits are also on offer.
