Into the Twenties

What an exhausting year on multiple fronts, but one I can exhale & look back on with fondness & dare I say it publicly, with a good dose of pride.

More often than not, I suppress the later with the feeling of perhaps guilt or perception of vaunt; content on looking forward week by week, riding the roller coaster of life, full of twists and turns seeing no further than the next dip, crest and swerve.

Eclectic Boogaloo has gone through a transition in 2019; an adaption to its surroundings, guided by our loyal band of tribes folk, mentors & friends.  As my mentor, Adrian Padgham edged into semi-retirement; it was with sadness that my time working for Adrian and Di had come to an end after four years of enjoyment, friendship & knowledge.

But with change & a willingness to step out of ones comfort zone, comes opportunities.  With opportunities, comes adaption, if willing.  2019 was the year when Eclectic Boogaloo found its identity, and perhaps in some ways, it has helped renew mine.

Looking back to see forward

Looking back to see forward

Our core business has pivoted to our upholstery and sewing services, but has snuggled into a niche that also bridges the gap between interior designer & upholstery professionals; offering our own design consultation, visits to fabric houses & supported with fastidious attention to detail.  Although I can’t even pretend to be filling the void of Adrians retirement, I will continue to put my own stamp of personality, dedication & passion on this opportunity.  I can’t thank my lovely clients enough for believing in me and my humble little business in this year of change.

But enough about 2019, all the cool kids are talking about the twenties.  And as my internal conflict rages between the anguish that 2020 should be a movie title about the far distant future, and the satisfaction that I can celebrate the centenary of the height of the Art Deco zeitgeist for the next decade; I look forward to commencing the year in my little way by spreading the joy of upholstery, sustainability & connectivity. Here’s to Art Deco 2.0.

And so in the leadership void that we see ourselves in today, let me end with a quote from Barack Obama.

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

Happy New Year.
