Description

Sewing Box Cushion covers are a fundamental upholstery skill to have in your repertoire. Be it for couch cushions, midcentury chairs, bench seats, outdoor lounges or even for a caravan make-over, these skills are transferable to a multitude of purposes. Our “Sew-What” project is designed to get you going on your very own sewing upholstery project. In this six hour course, you will become familiar with our sewing machines, learn how to measure & cut your fabric with seam allowance, as well as learn about the various types of foam. And of course, you will get hand’s-on by sewing your new cushion cover project. Please note that the size of your project is a key factor in being able to finish in the allotted time, but the course is designed to ensure you have the skills to finish it off at home or during our Upholstery Club*. This course, located in our Moorabbin Upholstery Workshop, is the perfect introduction to sewing in a social and relaxed atmosphere. No sewing experience required.

About your Seamstress

Your sewing teacher, Jen, will guide you through the process of creating your own box cushion from scratch. Jen, the founder of Eclectic Boogaloo has been honing her craft over many a year. She loves teaching & imparting her knowledge, experience & tips & tricks of the trade.

Choosing a Fabric

You will need to source and bring your own fabric for the course. If you require guidance, Jen, will be more than happy to help guide you through the foray of fabric selection. Check out our fabric webpage which includes links to our favourite fabric warehouses. From this page, you can also submit an order to request fabric samples to be posted to you and also place a fabric order. Samples must be organised four weeks prior to the class start date and orders placed two weeks prior. Please ensure you avoid leather, vinyl, velvet of piled fabrics for the course due to the additional complexities they will present for a beginner.

What you get

Included in the course fees are the use of a sewing machine, threads, cushion zips. As each project is different & we encourage reuse of inserts / foam where viable (please bring along), any foam / dacron will be an additional charge (or can be sourced by yourself after the course if preferred). Tea, coffee, water and biscuits are also on offer.
