Description
It’s time to restore your Garage Project. Over eight weeks, you’ll restore, repair & reupholster your chair back to it’s former glory at our warehouse in Moorabbin. Unlike our “Chair Amnesty” course which focusses on traditional skills, the Garage Project upholstery course has been designed to cater to a wide variety of chair types, eras & skills, tailoring the outcome to your specific project. Your teacher will guide you through the process of diagnosing your chair, where by you will plan an individual course of action. You will learn about upholstery fabrics & how to measure out the quantity for your project. And of course you’ll get active with all the upholstery tools, as you bring your chair back to life, all the while picking up the tips & tricks of the trade.
As each project is different, upholstery supplies are an additional cost on an as-required basis. Your choice of fabric is also an additional cost.
Not all chairs are suitable for this course based on size, condition & techniques required. Before booking, please email Jen a snap of your chair so that we can confirm it is suitable for the course, and advise whether it should be completed over the course timeline.

About your Upholstress
Founder of Eclectic Boogaloo, Jen, will guide you into your foray of upholstery. Jen fell in love with the craft after being introduced to it by the amazingly-skilled Adrian Padgham; Master Upholsterer. So much did Jen’s passion & natural ability show, Adrian offered her a job in assisting his upholstery classes back in 2015. With Adrian hanging up his tools in 2019, Jen has vowed to keep the craft alive with her own version of upholstery classes.
Choosing a Fabric
The meterage of the fabric required will depend on the style & dimensions of your chair and the pattern of the chosen fabric. Through the course, you will learn how to measure your chair for fabric, understand the impact of pattern matching to your meterage, as well as learn about different types of fabrics for your project. You do not need to have your fabric before the course. You’ll be able to touch & feel samples at the warehouse, as well as explore our fabric webpage which includes links to our favourite fabric warehouses. From this page, you can also submit an order to request fabric samples to be posted to you and also place a fabric order.
Choosing a Chair
Not all chairs are suitable for this course due to the size of your bench, the condition of the chair and techniques required to complete the work. Some key points to consider in choosing your chair - your chair must be a single-seater & fit within your transport vehicle (as you will need to take your chair home each week). Before booking, please email Jen a snap of your chair so that we can confirm it is suitable for the course, and advise whether it should be completed over the course timeline.
